Astronaut’s solo photo exhibition is for the birds!

Zoratti reports several features of the images appearing in Dr. Roberta Bondar’s exhibit, Patterns & Parallels: The Great Imperative to Survive. This conversation manages to reveal tales and anchor experiences that the young to-be-neurologist-astronaut recalls watching birds, with flight, with capturing avian migration sagas and attending the universal fight of endangered species.

She encourages Dr. Bondar to share what it is she sees at the photograph’s moment of capture and to describe her own reaction to what she sees and how distance or height add their accents to reveal an idea, a visual question, for the viewer to pursue.

Celebrated Canadian astronaut, neurologist shares photography at MHC Gallery

Nolan Kehler used his performer-broadcaster skills to engage Dr. Roberta Bondar in conversation at the CMU exhibit of her exhibition Patterns and Parallels: The Great Imperative to Survive.

His Question?

Where does the ‘Art’ and where does the ‘Science’ start?

His interview captures Dr. Bondar’s explanation of how Science meets Art and can combine in an eye-stopping and logical combination. Using photographic art to catch viewer’s attention to focus, to ‘enter’ the image then lead that viewer to wonder, to ask questions about the what and why and how of her subject’s appearance in the Time and Place of that moment.

Dr. Bondar says her approach is STEAM based – Science, Technology, Engineering, ART, and Math. All that and more, in this jam-packed interview!

SWEET!

Dr Roberta Bondar – in CHOCOLATE!

Congratulations to the Conestoga pastry chef team who created a 1 meter (4 ft) chocolate torso of Dr. Bondar in her launch suit, as the display signature of their multipiece entry in the Juniores Pastry World Cup.

In this video, Conestoga grad and pastry chef, Emilie Duffin, demonstrates the chocolate sculpture’s components and their construction, as her team readied for their Jan. 23-27 competition at Italy’s Rimini Expo Centre.

And the result?

The world’s first payload specialist/neurologist in space became the world’s first neuro-ophthalmologist in chocolate! And all in the 34th anniversary week of Dr. Bondar’s 1992 flight!

Luckily, these pastry chefs hadn’t asked their sculpture inspiration to model… From early age, Dr Bondar’s predilection for dark chocolate & its unfailing detection spring from earliest tales about her mother finding tooth marks in her Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate baking bars.
