SWEET!
Dr Roberta Bondar – in CHOCOLATE!
Congratulations to the Conestoga pastry chef team who created a 1 meter (4 ft) chocolate torso of Dr. Bondar in her launch suit, as the display signature of their multipiece entry in the Juniores Pastry World Cup.
In this video, Conestoga grad and pastry chef, Emilie Duffin, demonstrates the chocolate sculpture’s components and their construction, as her team readied for their Jan. 23-27 competition at Italy’s Rimini Expo Centre.
And the result?
The world’s first payload specialist/neurologist in space became the world’s first neuro-ophthalmologist in chocolate! And all in the 34th anniversary week of Dr. Bondar’s 1992 flight!
Luckily, these pastry chefs hadn’t asked their sculpture inspiration to model… From early age, Dr Bondar’s predilection for dark chocolate & its unfailing detection spring from earliest tales about her mother finding tooth marks in her Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate baking bars.
