Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference, 2016
The Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference assembles scientists, First Nations and tribal government representatives, resource managers, community/business leaders, policy makers, educators and students to present the latest scientific research on the state of the ecosystem, and to guide future actions for protecting and restoring it.
Named for its first regional inhabitants, the Coast Salish peoples, the Salish Sea is the transboundary body of water encompassing the Strait of Georgia, Puget Sound, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The Salish Sea ecosystem includes the metro hubs Vancouver BC and Seattle WA. It is home to over seven million people for whom it is an ecological wonder, an economic driver and a recreational playground. The sustainability of the Salish Sea ecosystem requires international attention of its governments as population expands rapidly.
