Dr. Roberta Bondar joined co-presenters Nicole Mortillaro and Roland Dechesne at the 4-day Thebacha & Wood Buffalo Astronomical Society‘s 2018 Dark Sky Festival. This annual action-packed event occurs at the Wood Buffalo National Park Dark Sky Preserve and Fort Smith Star Park & Observatory, renamed Dr. Roberta Bondar Northern Observatory, during the event.

June 8, 2018 in Riverwood, Mississauga, the Riverwood Conservancy honoured Dr Roberta Bondar with their inaugural Friend of Nature Award.

Nov 1 2016: The Royal Canadian Mint officially unveilled a silver collector coin to commemorate and celebrate the 25th anniversary of Dr. Roberta Bondar’s Space Shuttle Mission, STS-42 — the First International Microgravity Laboratory [IML-1] that became a template for cooperative Life and Physical science investigations aboard the International Space Station [ISS].  

In 1992, Roberta Bondar became Canada’s first woman astronaut and the world’s first neurologist in space. The #BondarCoin launch took place in Dr. Bondar’s hometown, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

The 155 Air Cadet Sqn. announced their Aircraft Maintenance Project, a partnership with the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre and the 155 — a joint venture that is the first phase of the Dr Roberta Bondar Air Cadet Training Program. This is a unique Air Cadet optional ongoing training program and possibly the first of its kind in Ontario and Canada.

This partnership gives Air Cadets the opportunity to learn from qualified Aircraft Maintenance Technicians on how to service aircraft, engines, and how to conduct pre-flight check lists with hands-on training on real static aircraft and displays.
