On September 28, 1961, the San Diego Underwater Photographic Society had its organizational meeting. SDUPS is one of the oldest organizations dedicated to the techniques and art of underwater photography.
Members include beginning underwater photographers to semi- and full-time professionals. They are committed to improving their skills and knowledge of various aspects of underwater photography — including techniques that range from film, through digital to video and to 3-D photography.
SDUPS encourages members to see the art in marine ecology with one-day “shootouts”, online photo critiques, and monthly digital competitions. Workshops include pool sessions for practicing underwater photography. The society fosters sensitivity to marine biosystems in the use of underwater photography that is creative, observant of subject, setting, and light. SDUPS runs the Annual San Diego UnderSea Film Exhibition featuring underwater films. Take a peek:
