Earth’s Natural History Champion – Happy 100th!
On May 8, 1926 British naturalist Sir David Frederick Attenborough was born. For 70 years, Attenborough has filmed, documented, and advocated on behalf of nature around the planet. He has showcased biological sciences and enhanced our visual relationship with the natural world and its environment. Through careful and patient documentary filmmaking, Attenborough has sensitized several generations of television viewers to natural wonders while adding a uniquely intimate education about biodiversity and its interaction.
Attenborough continues to build on the collection of programs he has assembled on all the major groups of terrestrial animals and plants – with respect, detail, humour, and his unflagging delight in discovery. He has not only influenced wildlife photographers and filmmakers, he has inspired new generations of naturalists… some of whom have named new species and fossils in his honour.
