United States National Park Service Birthday!

On August 25, 1916, the United States National Park Service was created by Congress through the National Park Service Organic Act to care for all national parks, historic battlefields, and monuments throughout the country.

More than 400 National Parks later… the USNPS celebrates its 105th birthday today. Each park has a special focus on a special ecological environment or serves to salute notable people and their achievements. Each is a place for learning and for enjoyment. Along with protecting and conserving, the park service staff is also charged with the responsibility of preserving each site for the enjoyment of future generations. The USNPS also partners with communities to help protect watersheds, promote local histories, help build trails, and revive historic buildings.
