Gifts of Securities and Investments
A donation of publicly traded securities such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds and segregated funds to the RBF may provide you with significant tax benefits. You can give now, or as part of your estate and Will planning. When you transfer securities that are listed on a public stock exchange directly to RBF, you may not pay tax on capital gains, providing you with a significant tax saving of up to 50%. Donors also qualify for a charitable tax receipt based on the asset’s fair market value.

(Note: Your gift will not qualify for the elimination of the capital gains tax if you sell the shares and donate the cash to the RBF. In order to benefit from the tax savings on the capital gains, the shares must be transferred intact.)
We highly recommend that when considering a gift of securities or investments that you obtain professional financial advice to assess options that are best for your goals, stage of life, and financial circumstances.
Gifts of Securities and Mutual Funds may be donated to the RBF through either Link Charity or Canada Helps.
Link Charity provides forms and distributes the funds from the sale of securities to the RBF. There are two forms that should be downloaded from the website: a Transfer Form and a Distribution Form. You must provide Link Charity with a copy of the Transfer Form (the original goes to your brokerage), plus the Distribution Form (to Link Charity only). It is essential that you send the Distribution Form to Link Charity, otherwise, they will receive the securities but won’t know who to receipt or that the proceeds should be distributed to The Roberta Bondar Foundation. Applicable fees are deducted from the donor’s account proceeds before distribution by Link Charity. This includes selling commissions charged by the receiving brokerage, and Link Charity’s standard distribution fees: $25 for the first distribution, and $10 for each subsequent distribution. Receipts are issued by Link Charity for a gift’s gross sale amount.
The other option is to donate through the secure Canada Helps form below. Canada Helps charges us a fee of 3% of the donation for donations of less than 10K. Receipts are issued by Canada Helps for a gift’s gross sale amount.
